Plein 'O Joy an original Acrylic Painting by Joan Princing Art

Here is a painting I completed a little while ago and I totally forgot to post about it.

This is a painting I took my time with and I think that my patience paid off nicely.

There is a lot of wonderful texture on this painting because underneath are two other completely different paintings that I painted over.

I am calling this one Plein 'O Joy because it was painted outside.  Usually I tend to paint indoors, and now I can see why so many artists enjoy the outdoors.  Plein 'O Joy is a very nice size too, it measures 20"tall x 16" wide and 3/4" deep.

Until next time,

Quote of the Day ...

Having more fun using different apps again!  I really enjoy adding quotes to my art.  It's a lot of fun matching up the quote to my drawings.

I used the Paper 53 Drawing App to sketch this drawing.  Very simple lines on this one.

Happy Monday Everyone.

Digitally Displaying Art on Walls

I am having tons of fun playing with different apps to showcase my Art on a wall!!  Thank you to my beautiful daughter, McKenna for letting me take this photo at her apartment as a model display.  This photo showcases my angel painting "Never Give Up".

Here are a few more examples:

This one showcases:  "Flora".

This one showcases:  "I'll Get You My Pretty".

And these are true to scale.  That is a 16 x 20 inch frame with my paintings that are 11 x 14.

I have been looking all over for an app to feature your art on walls, and just couldn't find I put on my thinking cap and made my own.

Not bad for a beginner, right?

Iris Scott's FREE finger painting tutorial. It's amazing!!

Last week, my daughter send me a facebook message letting me know of an article that one of our local TV stations did on an artist by the name of Iris Scott.  It was a good article, so I checked out her website and there she offers a FREE tutorial showing her 'finger painting' technique!!  It is pretty amazing!  She uses her fingers as brushes!  Well, I wasn't as home near my paints, so I grabbed my handy dandy iPad and started the tutorial.  Talk about FUN.  Iris is an amazing instructor.  I thoroughly enjoyed learning her finger painting technique.  In addition to the FREE tutorial, she also has a book.  It is only $15 at Amazon!  So I purchased it and cannot wait to try the five tutorials in the book!!  It's really fun using my pad to create, however, I simply cannot wait to try this technique using real paints!

Three Minute Timed Sketches = Total FUN

Had tons of fun setting the timer for three minutes and just quickly sketching these flowers.  Even though the clock is ticking, this is really a very freeing and relaxing exercise.  I love to see the results because they are so organic and real.

Here is the second one that I sketched:

I sketched both of these using my iPad and of course, I couldn't just leave them with no color!.  I love color.  Don't you?  So when you think you don't have any time to paint or draw - try a quick three minute sketch.  I must warn you, it can be addictive!  You won't want to stop at just one.

Happy Sketching Everyone!

Many Layers = Abstract Art

Not too long ago, I started an Instagram account.  And boy oh boy, and I am having TONS of fun over there.

I absolutely LOVE looking at all sorts of art on Instagram.  It is so much fun.  It's fun, also, to learn the different techniques that artists use.  One of the artists that I follow, creates his abstracts using many, many layers.... adding the paint, as well as taking off the paint.  So, I thought I would give it a try, and this is the result of my first attempt.  I'm thinking that I like this one.  It's different for me.

Happy Painting Everyone.

Great Tip When Making Purchases Online

Here is a possible great tip when purchasing online.

I read somewhere that before you start your online shopping at a particular site, first google the site name + coupon code and I guess half the time you can obtain a coupon code that will offer a good deal.  Has anyone tried this?  Does it actually work?  Please leave a comment and let me know.

Happy Weekend Everyone.

Let's Talk APPsolutely Wonderful APPs for Artists

It's that time again.  I love using different APPs with my art.

And today, I am sharing an APP called:  Fontmania.

Here are a few ways you can use this app:

That was a photo I took of the moon over the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington while I was at my daughter's apartment.  I really couldn't believe how nice of a photo it turned out to be considering I used my iPhone.

And this image was created using the Procreate APP on my iPad.

Plus you can also type in anything you wish, the two above examples were already made templates.

Happy Creating!  Until next time...

Oh, and if you have an APPsolutely Wonderful APP you would like to share, please leave a comment and let me know.  I'm just now really enjoying various APPs.... I know, I know... I'm a late bloomer.  Better late than never.   And your favorite APP doesn't have to be art related.

May the Sunshine be with You! iPad digital art is SO fun.

Been playing and practicing with my iPad.  Really love all the wonderful drawing apps out there.  I LOVE my iPad!!  So much fun creating with it.  I drew this one while at my daughter's apartment in Seattle.  She has a cute little bamboo plant sitting on her desk so I thought it would make a cool drawing.  I had it floating on water for a different aproach!  It's all about the joy of drawing/painting/creating, right!!  :)

Happy Weekend Everyone!

A Full Rainbow in Seattle, Washington

Just the other day, my husband and I were at our daughter's apartment in Seattle, and while looking out the window I saw a full rainbow!  Luckily, the apartment complex has an AWESOME rooftop.  So I ran up the stairs to snap a shot with my iPhone!  It sure is amazing how well iPhone cameras capture moments.  Every second that passed, the rainbow was getting brighter and brighter.

I tell ya, I truly never get tired of looking at rainbows!

You can even see the Space Needle to the right!

I was a happy camper for sure!

Until next time,

UPDATE:  OH MY GOODNESS, I just previewed the post and if you click on the image to view full size.... you will see a Double Rainbow!!!!  Ok, now that is just too cool.
