September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta - Day #25

Down the Rabbit Hole - The Queen of Hearts
It's Day #25 of Leslie Saeta's September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge.

It's The Queen of Hearts!  My paintings for  "Down the Rabbit Hole" series wouldn't be complete without The Queen of Hearts!

I tried to make her serious and not too friendly looking - hope I succeeded.

Now on to Day #26!

Happy Painting! Cheers! and ... Break a Bristle.

I must admit that I haven't quite completed all 24 paintings.  I have five days missing.  Whether or not I will be able to catch up is a mystery.  I'm trying, so we will see what happens.

Hope you enjoy today's "Alice in Wonderland".

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta - Day #18

Down the Rabbit Hole - The Mad Hatter

It's Day #18 of Leslie Saeta's September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge.

My "Down the Rabbit Hole" series all started on Day #13 when I painted a Rabbit and my daughter McKenna said it reminded her of Alice in Wonderland.  Since then, I have been excited to paint more characters from Alice In Wonderland.

Down the Rabbit Hole - The Rabbit
Then on Day #14, I painted the Cheshire Cat:

Down the Rabbit Hole - The Cheshire Cat
And for Day #15, I painted the Rabbit's pocket watch:

Down the Rabbit Hole - The Pocket Watch

I must say, that I am enjoying this series and I can't wait to start painting my version of Alice.

Happy Painting! Cheers! and ... Break a Bristle.

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta - Day #17

Welcome to Day #17 of Leslie Saeta's Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge.

Since I did not have the amount of time I really wanted to for painting today, I decided that I would try to create another quick abstract art.  So this is my 'catch up' painting.  This one IS different, I will give you that.  I have no idea what it is!?  Do you see anything here?  If so, please let me know.

On to Day #18.

Happy Painting!  Cheers!  and ... Break a Bristle.

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta - Day #16

"Little Girl feeding a Deer"

Now we are on Day #16 of Leslie Saeta's Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge.

I can't believe Day #16 is already here.  For today's painting, I used another royalty free image from The Graphics Fairy.  This particular image was a silhouette and I think it is absolutely adorable.  I thought it would look cool on a painted background. After I finished it, I added the hint of a tree, too.  I am calling this one "Little Girl feeding a Deer".  As a little girl, this is something most definitely that McKenna would do if she could and even to this day she would.  When McKenna was a little girl she would lots of hats.

What do you think?  Do you like the colors of this one.  Both my husband - Tony and Daughter - McKenna thought it turned out pretty cool.

Happy Painting!  Cheers!  and Break a Bristle.

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta - Day #15

Down the Rabbit Hole

It's officially two weeks, one day into Leslie Saeta's Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge.

"I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date!".... this pretty much sums up today's painting.  Boy oh boy the time is flying by for this challenge.

Here is another painting to accompany my "Down the Rabbit Hole" - Alice in Wonderland series.  I never intended to paint this series, it just sorta happened because of the Rabbit I painted earlier. I must say that I am having lots of fun with this series.

Now on to Day #16.  Wish me luck!

Happy Painting! Cheers! and ... Break a Bristle.

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta - Day #14

It's officially two weeks into Leslie Saeta's Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge!!

Honestly, it a wonder that I was able to finish this one!  Spent most of the day today enjoying the beautiful end of Summer sunshine!!   Then we headed out to one of my favorite places for walking on the University of Washington Campus, and last but not least headed over to Capitol Hill in Seattle where we ate the most delicious pie.

This was a very rushed painting to say the least.  From start to finish, I just threw the paint on and hoped for the best.  This painting will accompany "Down the Rabbit Hole",  for my "Alice in Wonderland" series.

Now on to day #15.

Happy Painting!  Cheers!  and ... Break a Bristle.

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta - Day #13

"Down the Rabbit Hole"
Today is Day #13 of Leslie Saeta's - September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge!

My goodness, we are almost at two weeks of this 30 in 30 challenge.  Time really does have a way of slipping by doesn't it?

Today's painting is called "Down the Rabbit Hole".  When I showed this one to McKenna she immediately said how much it reminds her of "Alice in Wonderland".

This is another painting where I used the line/grid drawing method that I am learning from Lee Hammond's 'Big Book of Drawing'.

Hope you enjoy today's painting.  Here is a close up:

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta - Day #12

"Never Forget"

Today is Day #12 of Leslie Saeta's - September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge!

I wanted to finish this one so that I could post it yesterday on September 11th.

Today's painting is called "Never Forget".

This painting is a result of using one of McKenna's beautiful photographs:

I used the line/grid drawing method that I am learning from Lee Hammond's 'Big Book of Drawing'.  This method is time consuming, however, the results are so nice.  I painted this one on a smaller pine board that I had cut down to size at our local lumber store.  I utilized the board and painted the image in the center so that I could paint a black frame all around.  I wanted this image to be the focal point on the wood.

Hope you enjoy today's painting.

Happy Painting!  Cheers!  and ... Break a Bristle.

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta - Day #11

Flower Bird
Well, it's Day #11 of Leslie Saeta's - September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge!

For today's painting I am submitting an abstract.  Like many artists, I really don't like to waste anything, especially paint.  So, this abstract was made using the leftover paint from yesterday's painting "Little Girl with Rocking Horse".

I am calling this one "Flower Bird".  If you look closely in the upper right hand corner you will see a beak and an eye then follow the bird's body down to the lower left hand corner and you will see it's tail feathers.  Then in the upper left hand corner, there is a flower.  It is always fun to just let your imagination take over because that is when you can stumble upon happy discoveries.

Wishing you all Happy Discoveries.

Happy Painting!  Cheers!  and ... Break a Bristle.

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta - Day #10

"Little Girl with Rocking Horse"
Well, it's Day #10 of Leslie Saeta's - September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge!

I must say, I am pretty proud of myself because for 10 days now I haven't missed one day yet!  (notice I said 'yet')

Anyhow, today's painting is called "Little Girl with Rocking Horse".  I know, I know... not a very original title.  This was another image that I found over at The Graphics Fairy.

I am experimenting again with my drawing skills by using the line drawing method.  This is the third painting I have completed for Leslie's challenge using the line drawing method with the help of Lee Hammond's "Big Book of Drawing".

Three years ago when I started my painting journey, I practiced this line drawing method.  And I quickly grew very bored with it because it took SOOOO long to complete.  I didn't have the patience back then... I wanted immediate results.  Here are some of the first drawings I completed back then:

Now that I do have the patience, I am wanting to explore many ways/techniques of drawing.
Here is a close up of today's painting:

If you any suggestions as to what I could name this one, please let know.

See ya for Day #11.

Happy Painting!  Cheers!  and ... Break a Bristle.

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta - Day #9

"Bunny Love"

Here is my painting for Day #9 of Leslie Saeta's September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge.

This one is called "Bunny Love".  The Graphics Fairy is a wonderful website where you can find tons of images to use that are royalty free.  I have used The Graphics Fairy from time to time and for this month's challenge I thought it would be fun to paint one of my favorite images from that site.

"Bunny Love" is painted using acrylics and glazing medium on a piece of pine that I had cut at our local hardware store.  I purposely made the painting smaller so that I could add 'a frame' if you will.  I am pleasantly surprised and very excited at how this one has turned out.  I really took my time with this one.

When McKenna was a little girl, she had a little white stuffed bunny and she named "Bunny".  I think that is why I was drawn to this particular image.  McKenna's "Bunny" went everywhere McKenna did.   "Bunny" even had his very own house with furniture, a car and even a garage.  At the time, "Bunny" worked for Microsoft, too.  "Bunny" was part of the family for many years!

Hope you enjoy today's painting!  On to Day #10.  I think I will use an image from The Graphics Fairy again.  Here is a close up:

Happy Painting!  Cheers!  and ... Break a Bristle.

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta

Deep in Thought

Today is the start of week number two already with Leslie Saeta's September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge!

Okay, here we are at Day #8 and the start of a brand new week.  Boy, sure wished I would have chosen a theme...but whoa is me...I am winging it!

Today's painting is called "Deep In Thought".  While I was painting this one, I was most definitely deep in thought.  When I finished this painting, boy oh boy if she didn't look deep in thought, too.

This one was painted on a pine board that I had cut to size at our local hardware store.  This is a mixed-media painting using acrylics.  It's a lot of fun adding papers to the surface to see what sorts of textures appear.

Now, on to figuring out what in the world to paint for Day #9.

Wish me luck!

Happy Painting!  Cheers!  and ... Break a Bristle.

My Dog Snood's help with Vasulitis - Happy Story :o)

Dog Snoods can help with Vasulitis

In addition to creating a variety of ART, you might not know this, however, I also sew a variety of items for Dogs!  I just had to share this post with everyone.  I love "Happy Stories" like this:

You may not know what a snood is, but they happen to be one of LLD's most popular items! Snoods help protect long-eared dogs from chewing their ears when eating. Snoods can also keep ears safe from head-shaking. They are used for healing purposes to protect the affected area so that this area doesn't reopen so quickly after the initial healing.

Just today, over at my Facebook Page, we received the most wonderful news that LuLu is making progress with an ear problem called vasculitis.  She recently had a visit with her veterinarian and they are very happy with the progress LuLu is making.  Her mom, Linda said that LuLu's ear are doing much better and she believes that the snood has made all the difference.  LuLu still has more recovering to do, however, she is off to a good start!  I am so happy to be of help with this.  And it means a lot to me that Linda kept me updated.

So, if you or anyone you know has a dog that suffers from vasculitis or other similar ear issues, please do let them know all about our snoods.

#6 - Snow Leopard
I offer dog snoods in seven (7) sizes as well as I will be more than happy to make a custom snood for your dog's needs as well.

We have over 40 fabric patterns to choose from.  Here are just a couple.

#7 - Red Bandana

#1 - Royal Blue Bandana

Plus, if you need a snood that is water resistant.... we offer those, too!    Come check us out, we would love to assist you with all your snood needs.

#4DWR - Ocean

Many thanks to Linda - LuLu's mom for sharing this wonderful experience with us!!

Have a wonderful day, everyone.

Charlotte

Man!  Does time fly by!!  Already on Day #7 of Leslie Saeta's September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge.  Can't believe one week is completed.

Meet Charlotte.  Today's painting is a result of an awesome photo my daughter, McKenna took of a spider on it's web.  McKenna LOVES taking macro shots and she especially loves taking photos of spiders and their webs.  Here she took a macro shot -- notice the bokeh?  notice the spider web?  Isn't is cool how her photo turned out?  When McKenna showed me this photo, I immediately thought how it looked like a painting!  So, I tried my hand at painting from her awesome photo.  What cha think?  Did I come close?

Here is an image of McKenna's photograph of the spider:

Happy Sunday Everyone!

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta

My goodness, we are already on Day #6  of Leslie Saeta's September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days.

Okay, I have to admit, this is a very, very quick painting that I am submitting for today.  While I was preparing the backgrounds on four others substrates, I quickly came up with this one.  I was trying for a 'tie-dye' type look.  What do you think?  Did I succeed?  The colors are kinda cool, don't you think?

Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend.

Happy Painting! Cheers!  and... Break a Bristle.

Joan

Oh, and BTW.... the reflection is pretty hard over on that right side of the painting as it really blurred out the line of the heart there...  probably because I used a glossy glaze + acrylic paints on this one.  Sorry about that glare!   (I know, I know .... that's an awful photo....:(

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta

Here we are at Day #5 of Leslie Saeta's September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge.  I used two canvas surfaces for today's painting.  I like to change things up a bit, and this is the result of doing just that.

One canvas is 5 inches x 4 inches and the other is 4 inches by 2 inches.  I was going for a continued dimensional look.

Wishing everyone a great weekend.  Hope you enjoy this 'out of the box' painting.  Here is another view:

Happy Painting.  Cheers.  and... Break a Bristle.

Owl Eyes

It's Day #4 of Leslie Saeta's September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge.

Today's "Owl Eyes" painting was painted on a 4 inch x 2 inch canvas using acrylic paints as well as light molding paste.  I purchased these smaller canvases a while ago and from time to time I enjoy bringing them out to try and create something unique.

Hope you enjoy today's painting.

See you for Day #5.

Rise and Shine
It's Day #3 of Leslie Saeta's September 2014 - 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.

For today, I wanted to try my hand at painting a Rooster.  Roosters are so colorful and I LOVE using lots of color when I paint.

"Rise and Shine" was painted using acrylics on a 5 x 7 canvas board.  I also used a tool for applying sgraffito designs.

It's already day #3 and I'm scrambling to keep up!  Wish me luck as we have 27 more days to go.

Happy Painting!  Cheers!  and ... Break a Bristle.

My Pride & Joy:  McKenna

It's Day #2 of Leslie Saeta's September 2014 - 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.

Okay, so I'm kinda bending the rules a tad bit by completing a drawing instead of a painting.  However, I see it this way.... Leslie states that there are no rules.  She states this challenge is about having fun and developing new habits.

Today's drawing is of my 'pride and joy', my daughter - McKenna.  I had a lot of fun pushing myself on this one.  I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.  (I know it's not perfect... however, I'm still very pleased with it.)  What cha think?    Last year she graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington.  Here is the photo I used for my practice:

See ya for Day #3.

Happy Painting.  Cheers.  and ... Break a Bristle.

September 2014 Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta

"Cherish"
Here we are!!  Day 1 of Leslie Saeta's: September 2014 - 30 paintings in 30 days challenge!!

I painted this one on a pine board that I purchased from our local hardware store and had them cut the boards to size.  I really love painting on wood.

"Cherish" is a 'reminder painting' if you will.  A reminder for each and every one of us to "Cherish" all of our days because time has a way of slipping by way too quickly.  Example:   I ask myself so many times....where is the world did the time go?  My baby is now 23 years old!!  How can 23 years go by so fast??

I used many layers of acrylics on this one as well as a graphite pencil and watercolor pencils, too.

I am so happy that Leslie is hosting this challenge again because I haven't been painting in a long while.  The last painting I did was way back in April of this year!!

Hope you enjoy this painting.

Stay tuned for Day #2.

I am also participating in Conny's "Mix It Monthly" Challenge.  Here theme for this month:  TREES.

Happy Painting!  Cheers!  and... Break a Bristle.
