My Painting #1 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days - September 2013 Challenge

Here it is!  My very first painting.  I am participating in Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days - September 2013 Challenge.

Here is a little bit of info regarding this lighthouse:

The Round Island Light, also known as the "Old Round Island Point Lighthouse" is a lighthouse located on the west shore of Round Island in the shipping lanes of the Straits of Mackinac, which connect Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. It was deemed necessary because the island is a significant hazard to navigation in the straits, and was seen as an effective complement to the other lights in the area. Because of its color scheme and form — red stone base and wood tower — it has been likened to an old-fashioned schoolhouse. Ferries regularly pass it on their way to (and from) Mackinac Island, and it is a recognizable icon of the upper Great Lakes.

My husband and I were married on Mackinac Island 34 years ago so this light house is special to us (as is Mackinac Island of course).

Mackinac Island is a beautiful island.  No motor vehicles are permitted on the island; only horses, and bicycles.  The island is eight miles around.  It is a 'Beautiful' walk.  The island hosts many fudge shops, and one of our favorite things to do is walk and/or bike around the island having various 'fudge eating' breaks!

Mackinac Island is also an exceptional place to paint!

Hope you enjoy my very first painting.  I could go on and on about the many beauties of this island.  You should check it out for yourself and google the Grand Hotel.  Wait til you see this hotel it is exceptional.  The movie "Somewhere in Time" was filmed there, too.  Okay, I'll stop....see what I mean...:o)

Even though this is just Day 1 of the challenge, I am already having lots of fun.

See you for Day 2.
